The Professional Development Centre (PDC) organise and facilitate a variety of events that give information on careers and the employability skills students can gain for their potential career. New events are always being added to the programme. Several sessions are hosted by employers who visit the university. You will earn points for attending workshops.
CAB aims to provide the advice people need for the problems they face and improve the policies and practices that affect people's lives. CAB provide free, independent, confidential and impartial advice to everyone on their rights and responsibilities. You can participate as a volunteer for the Citizens' Advice Bureau. If you volunteer for CAB, then you earn points per session attended.
If you've won a competition other than the READY or Venture competition, you can earn 20 points for winning
If you enter into competitions, either run externally by companies or here at Brunel, that help develop your skills then you will earn points. You can enter either as a team or as an individual- provided you meet all the competition rules and take part to the best of your efforts.
Earn 50 points for completing an external online course.
In addition to your degree, many employers value professional qualifications. You can undertake a variety of different qualifications in different fields run by external providers. You will earn points for each certificate attained.
Summer internships. Internships can be provided by BSIP, the Mentoring scheme or can be those you have applied for yourself from a professional organisation.
If you are looking for careers advice and guidance you can talk individually with a Careers Consultant. A typical discussion often includes CV, application or cover letter checks; postgraduate study; work experience and placement activities; and graduate employment. Appointments can be booked online, and you earn points for attending each appointment.
Workshops and events aim to help students to acquire a range of employability skills.
